Stop At: Catacombs of Milos, Tripiti 84800 Greece

THE CATACOMBS are the subterranean cemetery and worship place of the first Christian centuries in Milos. They are a complex of spacious halls and corridors carved in soft porous volcanic rock and connected via artificial corridors. The total length of the galleries is about 200m. Two types of tombs are curved in the walls called arcosolia (arched) and horizontal recesses called loculi. There are also pit graves carved into the ground.

Stop At: Church of Panagia Korfiatissa, Plaka 848 00, Greece

PANAGIA KORFIATISSA at Plaka built around 1810, houses some very old icons and ecclesiastical items, the most important being a magnificent guilded Epitaphios. On the yard one can admire the superb art of black and white pebbles “mosaics” typical island artwork, as well as a magnificent view of the Aegean Sea.

Stop At: Ecclesiastical Museum of Milos, Church of the Holy Trinity, Adamas 848 01 Greece

Historical Old Church housing the Ecclesiastical Museum of Milos at Adamas port. The museum contains rare 14th century icons, wood carved lecterns and iconstands of the 17th century, a large number of objects of the religious art tradition of the island. A bishop’s throne, silver chalices and offerings. Exceptional are the paintings.
