Upon arrival at Katakolon Port, you will be picked up from the spot and at the time arranged. We will be there holding a sign with your name clearly written on it, so that it is easier for you to recognize us. Afterwards you will enjoy safe and comfortable transfer in our luxurious Mercedes vehicles. During your transfer you can enjoy a free wi-fi on board but we will also provide you with a tablet and visual information about the area in different languages. We can also provide you a local guide book with all the necessary information about the archaeological site & Museum of Ancient Olympia, free of charge. The duration of the transfer is about 30min.
After an approx. 30 min of enjoyable ride you will reach Ancient Olympia. We will drop you off on a parking lot in a close distance from the marble art workshop. You will be welcomed by Alex, the sculptor, who will who will gladly introduce you to the secrets of marble art. Alex will guide you through his factory and explain you how the ancient sculptors worked the marble and which tools they were using before getting into the final form of statues, which after so many years are still admired and sought after. At this point you can become a sculpture yourself, as Alex will show you the technique and you will get a chance to try this amazing marble art yourself.
Alternatively, you can become potters for a while and join a workshop where you will learn how to create a small ceramic from the clay. Let’s create a small clay apple or pigeon which can “fly” back home with you in your suitcase and remind you of this unforgettable experience.
Enjoy almost 1 hour of free time in modern town of Olympia. Visit market streets called also “agora” where you can find various souvenir shops with leathers and ceramic, fashion clothes shops as well as jewelry shops. Alternatively you can enjoy Greek hospitality in local tavern or café.
Next stop will be a short honey sweet stop at local honey farm. Klio, the beekeeper, will give you warm and sweet welcome, before she guide you through her private collection and introduce you to the secretes of honey production. Finally, you will sit the cool garden and under the natural shades of the trees, you will taste the products of the farm itself, along with the traditional sweets with honey from Klio’s bees.
After approx. 4 ½ hrs is time to return back to Katakolon port. Make yourself comfortable at the seats of our luxurious vehicles and get back to your cruise on time and why not to take a jar of honey or apple made of clay with you.
