Stop At: Karfi, Up on the Diktaean Mountains, Crete Greece

There were about 10-13 thousand windmills that pumped the underground water, with which the local farmers were watering their crops. We start our hike from Tzermiado village, located at Lassithi plateau. An uphill cement road will lead us to the beautiful Nissimos plateau, where the trail to the summit of Karfi begins. At the summit we can find the ruins of an ancient Minoan settlement and have a panoramic view to the north coast, the mountains of Selena and Dikti and the Aposelemi dam. From the summit we will descend back to Tzermiado from a different path by following an old rocky-build mule path.
