There you will also find the church of Agia Sophia from which the cave took its name. The remarkable numerous stalagmites and stalactites on the cave’s walls reach a size of five meters. The legend says that from the Cave of Agia Sophia passed St. George and there is even a mark in the rock from the horseshoe of his horse.
In the Cave of Agia Sophia, scientists have discovered objects that testify to its use by the people of the Neolithic Period.
The Libyan Sea and Elafonissi – the most south-westerly point of Crete – are not far away. It is considered to be a genuinely beautiful place with its pale pink sandy beaches and crystal clear water.

The village is surrounded by lush greenery, olive groves, and plane trees. We will stop here for about 45 min to enjoy our lunch in a traditional taverna.
