Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product
Stop At: Corinth Canal, Isthmia, Loutraki 201 00 Greece
During this tour we will head southwest, about 80 kilometers away from Athens (50 miles).
Our first stop will be at the Corinth Canal, which connects the Gulf of Corinth with the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean Sea. It cuts through the narrow Isthmus of Corinth and separates the Peloponnese from the Greek mainland, turning an extended area of land into an island.
Duration: 10 minutes
Stop At: Ancient Corinth (Archaia Korinthos), Argous 105 Ancient Korinthos village, Corinth 200 07 Greece
We will then continue towards the Ancient town of Corinth, where St. Paul lived and preached for almost two years. This used to be one of the oldest, strongest and wealthiest city-states in the Greek history, as this was where the first currency was issued, trireme ships were constructed and high-quality pottery was produced. Destroyed by the Romans and then refounded by Julius Caesar in 44 BC, Corinth prospered as a Roman city for a second time in its history and became a renowned, multi-cultural commercial center. During your visit of the archaeological site you will encounter the Peirene fountain, the ruins of the Greek temple of Apollo as well as ruins of small Roman temples dedicated to emperors and their wives. You will be guided around the Roman Forum, which also includes the bema where St. Paul was forced to trial before the Roman Proconsul Gallio in 52 AD. Finally, you will walk on the ancient city’s well-preserved paved road, the main commercial road that connected the city to one of its major sea-ports, with lines of shops on both sides.

Stop At: Archaeological Museum of Corinth, Old Corinth, Corinth 20010 Greece
The local archaeological museum of Corinth with a wide range of interesting artifacts is located right next to the site, hosting a collection of impressive marble statues, beautiful clay vases and funerary items.
Duration: 30 minutes
Stop At: Acrocorinth, Corinth 200 07, Greece
We will then continue to the impressive, rocky hill of AcroCorinth, where the remains of a long defense wall are still visible. Rising above the ruins of the ancient city, this hill once served as a fortified upper citadel with a well-protected religious center. The view of the modern city of Corinth located 6 km to the northeast, overlooking the Ionian Sea and surrounded by a large valley, is astonishing from this high point. You may opt for a long walk uphill for further exploration, if time allows.
Drive downhill towards one of the local restaurants for a pleasant lunch break. After lunch, arrive at the nearby beach of Cenchrea, where swimmers nowadays enjoy the sea and where once existed a significant Roman port, from which St. Paul departed for Ephessus after his long stay in Corinth.
We will return to Athens following the same route.
