The Isthmus of Corinth is a narrow strip of land that connects Central Greece with the Peloponnese , while the canal that has been opened in it connects the Saronic Gulf with the Gulf of Corinth . It is about 6 kilometers long and the narrowest point is where the Corinth Canal was built (1880-1893). It was a strategic point and for this reason a wall had already been built since ancient times (end of the 5th century BC), which had been preserved until the Byzantines ( Hexamilion ).

One of the greatest centers of the Greek culture, which constitutes a powerful military fortress that used to dominate most of Southern Greece (world heritage site UNESCO).
“Polychryses Mycenae”, the kingdom of the mythical Agamemnon, first praised by Homer in his epics, is the most important and richest palatial center of the Late Bronze Age in Greece. Their name has been given to one of the most brilliant civilizations of Greek prehistory, the Mycenaean, and the myths associated with their history spanned the ages with the Homeric epics and the great tragedies of the classical era, while they inspired and continue to inspire worldwide the intellectual creation and art

The vaulted tomb of Atreus dominated the western slope of the ridge of Panagitsa, to the southwest of the acropolis of Mycenae and on the road axis that connected Mycenae with Heraion of Argos. It is one of the largest and most perfect Mycenaean vaulted tombs and the most impressive of the nine that have been found in Mycenae. It is dated between 1350 and 1250 BC.

Lion Gate is the popular modern name for the main entrance of the Bronze Age citadel of Mycenae in southern Greece. It was erected during the thirteenth century BC, around 1250 BC, in the northwestern side of the acropolis. In modern times, it was named after the relief sculpture of two lionesses in a heraldic pose that stands above the entrance.

Nafplio is the capital of Argolida and one of the most picturesque towns in Greece of unspoiled architecture and with a neoclassical character. It was the capital of Greece during the period 1828-1833. In the center of the town, we can taste traditional food in picturesque small towns.

Bourtzi is a castle located on the islet of Agios Theodoros in the middle of the port in Nafplio, about 400 meters from the pier.
The name that has prevailed is “Bourtzi”, it comes from the Turkish-Arabic language and means “island-fortress” where it is the registered trademark together with the castle of Palamidi for Nafplio.
Its oldest name from the Venetians was “Castello dello soglio” and for the port “Porto di cadena”, port of the chain, because every night five brothers reached from the rampart to Akronafplia until Bourji a chain and closed the port for security, while the Turks later surrounded it with the “porpela”, an underwater barrier of stones so that it was not possible to approach by large ships.
To visit Bourtzi you should use the small boats located in the port of Nafplion.

Palamidi is a fortress to the east of the Acronauplia in the town of Nafplio in the Peloponnese region of southern Greece. Nestled on the crest of a 216-metre high hill, the fortress was built by the Venetians during their second occupation of the area (1686–1715).

The fortress was a very large and ambitious project, but was finished within a relatively short period from 1711 until 1714. It is a typical baroque fortress based on the plans of Venetian engineer Antonio Giancix and built by French military engineer Pierre de la Salle. In 1715 it was captured by the Ottomans and remained under their control until 1822, when it was captured by the Greeks.

Epidaurus, the historical town of Argolida, built at the foot of Mount Arachnoe and famous for its ancient theatre which was built in 340B.C. with a capacity of 130.000viewers. It is the most beautiful and the most well-maintained theatre with excellent acoustics, features that contributed to the creation of the festival of Epidaurus.

The Theater of Asclepius of Epidaurus was built on the western side of Mount Kynorti, at the end of the Classical era. This unique monument, the most perfect and famous ancient Greek Theatre, which combines elegance with perfect acoustics, is according to Pausanias, the work of Polykleitos (the Younger), the creator of the Dome in the same sanctuary.

The sanctuary of Asclepius in Epidaurus was the largest healing center of antiquity. Τhe processional road led the Temple of the god, the Dome, one of the most elegant architectures of the classical era, a circular building, , the a place where patients were treated through their meeting with the god in their sleep. Near these buildings are the large building for the focus of the faithful after the sacrifice during the holidays and the also large hostel, in which the patients and their attendants resided.
