Stop At: Monastery of Hosios Loukas, Distomo 32005 Greece

DAY 1. Our First stop is UNESCO site, the Hosios Loukas monastery, where you can admire the amazing mosaics and frescoes from the early 10th c AD. The frescoes of the crypt were cleaned in 1960 and until then they were covered in plasters.  It is one of the most important monuments of Middle Byzantine architecture and art.

Stop At: Delphi Archaeological Museum, Ethniki Odos Amfissas – Livadias, Delphi 330 54 Greece

DAY 1. Delphi is located on multiple plateaux along the slope of Mt Parnassus and includes the Sanctuary of Apollo, the site of the ancient Oracle. The ancient Greeks considered the centre of the world to be in Delphi, marked by the stone monument known as the omphalos (navel). The Delphi Archaeological Museum is at the foot of the main archaeological complex. The museum houses an impressive collection associated with ancient Delphi, including the earliest known notation of a melody, the famous Charioteer of Delphi, Kleobis and Biton, golden treasures discovered beneath the Sacred Way, the Sphinx of Naxos, and fragments of reliefs from the Siphnian Treasury. Immediately adjacent to the exit is the inscription that mentions the Roman proconsul Gallio.

Entries to the museum and to the main complex are separate and chargeable, and a reduced rate ticket gets entry to both. There are a small cafe and a post office by the museum.

DAY 1. Arachova is a mountain town and a former municipality in the western part of Boeotia, Greece.It is a tourist destination due to its location in the mountains, its traditions and its proximity to the town of Delphi.The Formaela cheese from Arachova has been designated as a protected designation of origin.Nearby Arachova, modern ski facilities are popular with visitors.It has a panoramic view and is famous for its black wine, its “brusque”, the colorful textiles, carpets and rugs, handicrafts and woodcut creations as well.

Stop At: Battlefield of Thermopylae, Thermopylae Greece

DAY2. The Battle of Thermopylae was fought between an alliance of Greek city-states, led by King Leonidas I of Sparta, and the Achaemenid Empire of Xerxes I over the course of three days, during the second Persian invasion of Greece. It took place simultaneously with the naval battle at Artemisium, in August or September 480 BC, at the narrow coastal pass of Thermopylae (“The Hot Gates”). The Persian invasion was a delayed response to the defeat of the first Persian invasion of Greece, which had been ended by the Athenian victory at the Battle of Marathon in 490 BC. By 480 BC Xerxes had amassed a massive army and navy, and set out to conquer all of Greece.Both ancient and modern writers have used the Battle of Thermopylae as an example of the power of a patriotic army defending its native soil. The performance of the defenders is also used as an example of the advantages of training, equipment, and has become a symbol of courage against overwhelming odds.

DAY 2. The Meteora in central Greece is hosting one of the largest and most precipitously built complexes of Eastern Orthodox monasteries, second in importance only to Mount Athos. The six monasteries are built on immense natural pillars and hill-like rounded boulders that dominate the local area.Meteora is included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Of the six functioning monasteries, the Holy Monastery of St. Stephen and the Holy Monastery of Roussanou are inhabited by nuns while the remainder is inhabited by monks.

DAY 3.Lake Plastiras also called Tavropos Reservoir is an artificial lake fed by Tavropos (Megdovas) river, located near the city of Karditsa, Greece.Today the lake holds up to 400 million cubic meters of fresh water.Due to its altitude (one of the highest in Europe) the Tavropos Reservoir is a popular tourist resort in Greece, as the formed landscape is quite unique.

DAY 3. Kamena vourla is a seaside resort located in Cenral Greece opposite the northernmost point island of Evia.
