Your first stop is in the small village of Bitzariano at a traditional shepherds’ place, where the goats and sheep are kept. See the traditional way of milking and why not try yourself?
You continue to the village Polythea, where you are invited by a local family to their house and to try all kinds of Cretan mountain teas and herbs. Continue after this refreshing break to the garden of the family, so called “Bostani”. Learn how the vegetables are plant, harvest fresh vegetables and fill up your basket to prepare the lunch later. Walk through the picturesque paths of the village about 20 minutes to the church of Saint Panteleimonas, where you can learn a lot about tradition, the orthodox religion and admire byzantine frescoes and icons.
Now you will continue by coach to the traditional village of Kato Karouzanos, see how the local snaps “raki” is produced, see traditional handicraft and honey production.
It is time to prepare the lunch. Learn to bake bread in the wood oven, prepare local delicacies from the fresh vegetables you brought from the garden and see how our shepherd produces the cheese from the milk collected earlier called Kefalotiri and Mizithra. Now it is time to enjoy a tasty Mediterranean meal with local wine and try a Greek coffee afterwards.
